The Impact of Private Investments on the Public Health System - Five Years Since the Inauguration of the Heliport Funded by MaxBet at the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital

The medical heliport of the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital (SUUB), inaugurated in 2019 after a €1 million investment entirely funded by MaxBet Romania, has marked five years of operation. Since its commissioning, over 550 flights have landed there, with a quarter of them occurring at night. This heliport remains the only emergency medical transport infrastructure in the country capable of operating under low visibility conditions. Recently, to ensure its continued operation at the safety standards required by authorities, MaxBet directed additional funding of €78,000 for renovation and reauthorization. Thus, the company's contribution to equipping SUUB has reached over €1.4 million, covering projects developed over an 11-year partnership.

In 2019, with the heliport's inauguration, SUUB became the first medical facility in the capital to benefit from such infrastructure, solidifying its position as a center of excellence in managing medical emergencies. With two operational flight paths, including night missions, the heliport was designed to serve critically ill patients from across the country, including the transfer of premature newborns. By significantly reducing transport times, the heliport has played a crucial role over the past five years in enhancing the Romanian healthcare system's emergency response capacity.

"We are pioneers in our industry, but we are proud to have also paved the way for public-private partnerships. Five years after inaugurating this unprecedented medical infrastructure project in Romania, we are delighted to see the impact it has had and how the relationship built around this initiative has evolved. This anniversary marks both an achievement and the confirmation of a vision that has demonstrated how private involvement can support and amplify the efforts of the public sector. We believe in the power of assumed responsibility and will continue to support initiatives that address critical community needs and lay a solid foundation for the future," said Cătălin Nichifor, Administrator of MaxBet Romania.

The collaboration between Romania's leading gambling company and the medical institution began in 2014. Over the past 11 years, projects have included investments in state-of-the-art equipment and essential rehabilitation, development, and outfitting work for several hospital departments. The most recent investment, made this fall, involved the acquisition of a cutting-edge arthroscopy tower, an essential piece of equipment for minimally invasive orthopedic surgery.

In its 20 years of operation in Romania, MaxBet has allocated over €5.5 million to social responsibility projects, with the most significant portion directed towards healthcare initiatives.
