The first Stem Cell Transplant clinic in Romania renovated with the support of MaxBet. An extra chance for children with blood cancers
Following the MaxBet investment, together with two other main sponsors and the individuals involved, over 1000 children will benefit annually from the best conditions for medical care and treatments in the clinic in Timisoara. The 2 million euro project was coordinated by the ”Daruieste Viata” Association, and the complete renovation of the Stem Cell Transplant Clinic within the Louis Turcanu Timisoara Emergency Clinical Hospital for Children is part of the major onco-pediatric infrastructure projects carried out by the civil society.
1,600 square meters, 23 rooms with private bathrooms, 6 sterile rooms, 8 pretransplant beds and four state-of-the-art laboratories for cytogenetics, FISH, molecular biology and flow cytometry. This is the technical description of the clinic in Timișoara where history is made every day. The medical unit in Timisoara is a landmark for pediatric hemato-oncology, being the place where, in 2001, the first stem cell transplant was performed for a child. And from 2001 until today, lives are saved every day. Every year, 1,000 children from all over Romania are diagnosed and treated in the clinic on the Bega shore, the end result being the healing of patients.
The investment started in 2014 amounts to approximately two million euros, MaxBet being one of the most important sponsors of the complete renovation coordinated by ”Daruieste Viata”. The project consisted of the repartitioning and renovation of the spaces, the construction of toilets in each clinic room, furniture, and creation of modern conditions in the salons, playgrounds, for consultation and auxiliary spaces, the installation of medical gas for possible emergencies and a treatment plant of air to ensure the specific environment of sanitary spaces.
”We have all been through a difficult period in recent months, but this has not meant that we have to forget those who need our help the most - cancer patients, children and adults. ”Daruieste Viata” has continued its strategic infrastructure projects in parallel with the campaign to support hospitals in pandemic, and now we are happy to talk about completing another new project of national importance that will bring extra chances to life”, said Oana Gheorghiu, founder of Daruieste Viata.
Now, the clinic in Timisoara meets all European standards.
”Understanding that abroad there are chances of 85% to cure blood cancers, we want the same for the Romanian medical system. Starting from these statistics, we realized that the doctors, patients and parents of these children need medical treatment at the highest standards, but also equally good hospital conditions. We were impressed by the story of the little heroes, who fight daily to defeat the disease, with a special energy, giving us real survival lessons. MaxBet stays with Daruieste Viata and the Romanian medical system”, said Ioana Bazavan, general manager of MaxBet.
This strategic project joins the other MaxBet and ”Daruieste Viata” initiatives for a radical change in the Romanian health care system for the benefit of patients and healthcare professionals.
Given the complicated times we live in, ”Daruieste Viata” chose to hold an online press conference, an event in which local journalists and representatives of the central press discovered the completely renovated clinic through a virtual tour. MaxBet was represented at the festive moment by Alexandra Minca, coordinator of social responsibility activities, who declared on behalf of the company: ”We will continue to support our peers, so that tomorrow's generation will have the best conditions. In order to have no more generations of children and teenagers who are afraid to go to the doctor, even after they have become adults. We have been together since the beginning of the project, regarding the construction of the first pediatric oncology and radiotherapy hospital in Romania, Marie Curie, a project that grows every day. MaxBet also fully financed the construction of the only medical heliport in terrace in Bucharest, with a value of 1 million euros. All these projects carried out by MaxBet show us that together we make a difference, together we save lives”.

The clinic in Timisoara will continue to benefit from support, even after bringing the medical unit to European standards. One of the priorities is the implementation of the protocol of the World Health Organization of ”Clean Hands”, a program that would be implemented for the first time in a state oncology clinic in Romania.
