The first flight on the new SUUB Helipad, the first step towards a new chance for life

We understood the importance of building a Helipad for the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital and we chose to get actively involved in its construction. We also understood the need for a helipad in the capital and we chose to financially support its implementation.

On Wednesday evening, the 13rd of November 2019, the first flight was made on the new SUUB Helipad, with the SMURD EC-135 helicopter, for the calibration of night landing devices, which is also the last step in the operationalization of specific devices and instruments necessary for operation of a heliport.

The helipad’s platform benefits from a metal structure consisting of steel beams and latticed poles and is equipped with gutters and safety nets, with electrical marking system, with light markings, with rescue protection and fire-fighting equipment.

Until the Helipad’s construction, helicopters with patients in serious condition, brought from all over Romania to SUUB, landed at a nearby military unit, after which they were transported by ambulance. Thus, about 20 crucial minutes were lost. 

Now, with the new Helipad located on the Central Operating Unit, patients will be transported directly to the Emergency Reception Unit, with the help of an elevator and an above-ground corridor, which will allow doctors to take on more serious cases that may benefit from advanced medical care.

Medical helicopters will benefit from two flight paths, even during nighttime. Thus, regardless of the time of day, the emergency medical helicopters will be able to land, and the medical cases will be taken over by the Emergency Reception Unit’s specialists.

We will also finalize the completion documents for the construction site, the construction activity’s reception and the operation as a closed-circuit civil helipad’s authorization.
